At Gejay Automotive in Bendigo, we recently inspected a vehicle that had been experiencing transmission problems, including slipping between gears and noticeable clunking during gear changes. These symptoms are often early warning signs that something isn't quite right inside the transmission and should never be ignored. To investigate further, our technicians removed the transmission oil pan and immediately found a significant amount of metal shavings and debris collected in the bottom of the pan. Metal contamination like this is a clear indication of internal component wear and can suggest that the transmission has been operating with degraded fluid or has missed scheduled maintenance intervals. Transmission fluid plays a critical role in lubricating internal components, controlling hydraulic pressure, and helping to keep operating temperatures under control. Over time, transmission fluid breaks down and loses its ability to properly protect the transmission. When servicing is delayed, excessive wear can occur, leading to costly repairs or even complete transmission failure. In this case, the metal contamination highlighted the importance of routine transmission servicing. Regular transmission fluid and filter changes can help remove contaminants, improve shifting performance, reduce wear, and potentially extend the life of your transmission. If you've noticed slipping gears, delayed engagement, harsh shifting, unusual noises, or it's been a while since your last transmission service, it's worth having your vehicle inspected by the experienced team at Gejay Automotive. We're proud to provide expert transmission servicing and repairs for drivers throughout Bendigo and the surrounding areas. Don't wait for a minor issue to become a major repair. Book your transmission service with Gejay Automotive today and enjoy greater peace of mind on the road.

Transmission Service Case Study: What We Found Inside This Transmission Oil Pan

Driving on a hot summer day can be unpleasant, especially if your car's air conditioning isn't working properly. At Gejay Automotive, we understand the frustration of dealing with a faulty A/C system. If you've noticed warm air blowing from the vents, unusual noises, or an unpleasant smell when the A/C is on, it might be time to get your system checked. One of the most common signs of air conditioning issues is a lack of cool air. If you find that the air isn't as cold as it used to be, or if it's taking longer to cool down the car, there might be a refrigerant leak or a problem with the compressor. Strange sounds when you turn on the A/C, like grinding or squealing, can also indicate mechanical issues that need attention. Additionally, musty odors coming from the vents suggest that there may be mold or bacteria growing within the system. Modern cars are extremely complex and just like the engine a vehicle's air conditioning system has components that need to be serviced or replaced on a regular basis to ensure continued reliable and efficient operation. Is keeping your cool costing you fuel? Evaporation occurring over time or leaks may diminish refrigerant pressure meaning your air con system will begin to deteriorate and will have to work harder, increasing your fuel consumption. Therefore it is important to scrutinise the condition of the rubber seals regularly for any signs of leaks or issues which may be a sign of refrigerant loss. Having your car's air conditioning serviced annually means you assist in protecting the air-con against costly breakdowns now and in the future, keep passengers safe by helping to prevent the build-up of potentially harmful substances and a well serviced car air conditioning system actually saves you money because it results in a reduction of fuel expenditure. Gejay Automotive care about the environment and have Arctick Authorisation (AU068164) to reliably and responsibly conduct automotive air conditioning regas, repairs, servicing or inspection. Visit us at our Bendigo workshop for all your car air conditioning service and repair needs. Our friendly team is here to help you stay cool and comfortable on the road.

Seeing the temperature gauge climb or steam coming from under the bonnet can be stressful. An overheating car should never be ignored: excessive engine heat can quickly cause serious damage, including a warped cylinder head, blown head gasket or complete engine failure. If your vehicle is overheating in Bendigo, the team at Gejay Automotive can inspect the cooling system, identify the cause and help protect your engine from costly repairs. What causes a car to overheat? Your vehicle's cooling system keeps the engine operating within a safe temperature range. Coolant circulates through the engine, absorbs heat, then travels to the radiator where that heat is released. When one part of this system fails, the engine can become too hot. Common causes of car overheating include: Low coolant level: A coolant leak from a hose, radiator, water pump, reservoir or gasket can leave the system without enough coolant to carry heat away. Coolant leak: Green, pink, orange or blue fluid under the car, a sweet smell, or a falling coolant level are all signs that need attention. Radiator problems: A blocked, damaged or leaking radiator cannot effectively release heat. Faulty thermostat: The thermostat controls coolant flow. If it sticks closed, coolant cannot circulate properly through the engine. Water pump failure: The water pump moves coolant around the system. A worn, leaking or failed pump can quickly lead to overheating. Cooling fan fault: Electric cooling fans are particularly important when idling or driving in slow traffic. A faulty fan, relay, sensor or wiring issue may cause the temperature to rise at low speeds. Blocked hoses or cooling passages: Old coolant, corrosion and debris can restrict coolant flow. Head gasket problems: A blown head gasket can allow combustion gases and coolant to mix, leading to overheating and other serious engine issues. Signs your car may be overheating The temperature warning light is an obvious sign, but it is not the only one. Contact Gejay Automotive if you notice: The temperature gauge rising above its normal position Steam or vapour from under the bonnet A sweet or unusual smell from the engine bay Coolant leaking beneath the vehicle The heater blowing cold air while the engine is hot Reduced engine performance, rough running or a warning light White exhaust smoke or milky-looking engine oil What should I do if my car overheats? If the temperature gauge climbs into the red or a temperature warning light appears, pull over safely as soon as possible and turn the engine off. Do not keep driving in the hope that it will cool down; even a short distance can worsen the damage. Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system is pressurised and hot coolant can cause serious burns. Allow the engine to cool completely before checking anything, and arrange professional assistance if you are unsure. Why does my car overheat in traffic but not on the highway? This often points to a cooling fan issue. At highway speeds, air naturally flows through the radiator. In slow Bendigo traffic or while idling, the radiator fan has to provide that airflow. A failed fan motor, fuse, relay, temperature sensor or wiring fault can cause the engine temperature to rise at low speeds and settle again once you are moving. Can low coolant cause overheating? Yes. Low coolant is one of the most common reasons a vehicle overheats, but it is important to find out why the level is low. Coolant does not normally disappear. A cooling-system pressure test and inspection can help locate leaks before they develop into a bigger repair. How Gejay Automotive can help At Gejay Automotive in Bendigo, we can inspect your vehicle's cooling system and diagnose the cause of overheating. This may include checking the coolant condition and level, hoses, radiator, thermostat, water pump, cooling fans, pressure cap and signs of internal engine leaks. We will explain the issue clearly and recommend the right repair to get you back on the road with confidence. If your car is running hot, has a coolant leak or has displayed a temperature warning light, book an inspection with Gejay Automotive before a small cooling-system fault becomes an expensive engine repair.

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Gejay Automotive in Bendigo, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Gejay Automotive, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Gejay Automotive for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
